Rabbi Richard J. Israel
For most of his career Richard J. Israel, z"l, worked on college campuses as a Hillel Foundation director; at U.C.L.A., Yale and Princeton, and as Hillel area director for universities in Greater Boston. He was the Director of the Rabbinic Program for the College Campus of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. In recent years he directed a bureau of Jewish Education, the Judaica program of a group of Jewish community centers and taught at the Jewish communal service program at Brandeis University. He also served as Rabbi of the Jewish Religious Union of Bombay, India.

He published regularly in a wide range of Jewish periodicals and has more than a hundred and thirty articles in print including articles for each volume of the widely read Jewish Catalog.

Rabbi Israel was past-president of the National Association of Hillel Directors and of the Yale Religious Ministry.
