{"id":209,"date":"2009-07-05T20:24:49","date_gmt":"2009-07-06T00:24:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/d-n-i.com\/tidbits\/?p=209"},"modified":"2011-09-08T06:20:42","modified_gmt":"2011-09-08T11:20:42","slug":"how-to-get-rid-of-ants-in-a-honey-bee-hive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/d-n-i.com\/tidbits\/2009\/07\/05\/how-to-get-rid-of-ants-in-a-honey-bee-hive\/","title":{"rendered":"How to get rid of ants in a honey bee hive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Damn ants took advantage of my two weak nuc (nucleus) hives and crawled up and infested the place. \u00a0They were there to steal the 1:1 sugar:water syrup that I had left to feed weak bees, as it was going to be a rainy week. \u00a0The nucs were made with bees from one of my stronger hives (James) and super-fancy queens that were bred by Michael Palmer in Vermont. \u00a0Acquired the Queens at a Nuc Workshop run by the <a href=\"http:\/\/mainebeekeepers.org\/cumberland-county-beekeepers\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cumberland County Beekeepers Association<\/a>&#8216;s own Erin Forbes and Larry Peiffer. \u00a0A very helpful class that I would highly recommend (I think they are going to do it again next year).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_210\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-210\" style=\"width: 428px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-210\" title=\"Ants in a honey bee hive (nuc)\" src=\"http:\/\/d-n-i.com\/tidbits\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/ants-in-my-nuc-hive.jpg\" alt=\"Ants in a honey bee hive (nuc)\" width=\"428\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/d-n-i.com\/tidbits\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/ants-in-my-nuc-hive.jpg 428w, http:\/\/d-n-i.com\/tidbits\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/ants-in-my-nuc-hive-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 428px) 85vw, 428px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-210\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ants in a honey bee hive (nuc)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Anyway, back to getting rid of the ants. \u00a0 \u00a0Ground cinnamon sprinkled around the base of the hive and inside the top of the hive are a well know way of keeping the ants at bay &#8211;
